We examine the impact of combinations of IPR<br \/>\non the firm\u2019s productivity in order to study the complementarity or substitution<br \/>\nrelationship between them. Our data are extracted from two sets of community<br \/>\ninnovation survey (CIS): CIS IV and CIS 2006. We investigate<br \/>\ncomplementarity (substitution) at two levels: in the context of formal IPR<br \/>\nstrategies and when they are combined with other intangible and managerial<br \/>\nassets based on both adoption and productivity approaches. Mixed results are<br \/>\nfound for the complementarity of IPR alone. However, in combination with<br \/>\nother activities, there is high complementarity with innovative and innovation<br \/>\ncooperation variables.
